(NC)—Planning a cruise vacation? If so, you're not alone. According to Cruise Lines International Association, over the next three years 51 million North Americans have indicated an intention to cruise.
It can take years to plan and save for a cruise vacation. An unexpected event can turn those plans upside down in seconds, so it's critical to protect your investment with travel insurance.
“Although many cruise lines offer some insurance coverage, travellers need to ensure they're getting comprehensive coverage from the moment they book their trip until their return home,” says Stan Seggie, president and CEO of the travel division of RBC Insurance Company of Canada. “Unexpected events such as flight delays or severe weather can mean literally missing the boat through no fault of your own.”
Before purchasing travel insurance, make sure the policy:
• Covers the entire cost of your vacation if, for example, you had to cancel your cruise due to an illness or other insurable risk.
• Covers you if the cruise ship is delayed or cruise itinerary is interrupted due to an emergency medical condition of another passenger.
• Covers you if you are unable to use your cruise shore excursion tour tickets or special events tickets purchased during your cruise due to an emergency medical condition.
• Covers expenses incurred prior to the departure of the cruise ship when it has been redirected or grounded due to weather conditions, experienced mechanical failure or if it has been quarantined.
Next time you're making travel arrangements, ask for RBC Insurance.
