The Canadian love affair with TV is growing

(NC)—If you're curious about all the chatter created by high definition television lately, here's the scoop. A recent Ipsos Reid survey commissioned by Rogers, revealed that 38 percent of Canadians own at least one high-definition television (HDTV), and 8 percent of us own more than one.

“Once you've witnessed the incredible sight and sound experiences from such an elegant piece of living room furniture it's painful to go back to your old boxy TV,” says technology expert Andy Walker, executive producer of butterscotch.com. “HDTV gives you brilliant, high-resolution images with incredible detail and sharpness, as well as crystal clear surround sound that seems to put you inside the action.”

Since HD launched, there has been significant expansion, product improvements and growth in programming available. “HD content has exploded in the last few years,” said David Purdy, vice president of video product management at Rogers Cable. “It's not just sports and nature flicks anymore, now you can watch the majority of your favourite primetime programs in HD anytime you want.”

With the growth in programming and viewer demand increasing, TV providers are bringing innovative products to market to enable enjoyment of HD any time the customers want it. “HD Personal Video Recorders are making the old VCR laughable,” said Walker. “The PVR gives you the freedom to record, playback, fast forward and rewind, giving you greater control of what you're watching. Add this to the masses of HD content available it makes TV-watching irresistible these days.”

“It's not just PVRs that have our customers excited,” Purdy explained. “On Demand gives you the most advanced features, freedom and flexibility to date. With as many as 5,000 titles for viewing, On Demand lets you watch your favourite episodic programming from leading networks such as Citytv, Global, and E!, at a time that suits you best. In addition, you also get HBO Canada with never-before-seen content, including exclusive series, films, documentaries, live concerts and sporting events.”
